Scholar Athletes of the Year

Matt Zorn – Men’s Basketball
Matt is a sophomore from Mission Oaks High School.  After suffering a season ending injury last year, Matt came back this year and was a true team leader.  He hustled on every play, and although he was only 6’3, he led the team in rebounding at 6.5 rebounds per game.  Matt will be continuing his basketball career at Northland College in Wisconsin.

Briana Bamber – Softball
Briana is a sophomore 3rd baseman from Monache High School in Porterville.  Briana started every game for the Pirates in her 2 years at PC, which is an impressive feat.  She is an exemplary student, and was recently honored by Phi Theta Kappa as one of the Top 60 Community College Students in California.  Briana will be attending Urbana University in Ohio next fall on a softball scholarship.                       

Freshmen of the Year   

Brandon Lozano – Baseball
Brandon is a freshman infielder from Monache High School.  After a conversation with Coach Walkowiak in December about possibly sitting this year, Brandon emerged as one of the unquestioned leaders of the team.  He made several highlight plays in the outfield and was a key component in a late-season win over West Hills Coalinga, going 3 for 5 with 2 RBI.

Ally Garcia – Women’s Basketball
Ally comes to PC after prepping at Porterville High School.  She played point guard for the team this year and developed into a true floor leader for the team.  Her effort and her desire to excel helped her become one of the best defenders in the Central Valley Conference.                            

Sophomores of the Year

Gilbert Ortega – Baseball
Gil is a sophomore from Bell Gardens High School in Bell Gardens, CA.  Gil was a dual threat, as one of the top hitters on the team with a .297 batting average and as one of the best pitchers in the rotation.  Gil’s best game on the mound may have been in April against West Hills Coalinga, where he threw a complete game, giving up only 5 hits and 1 earned run in the victory.  Gil is considering his opportunities for playing at the next level.

Davy Baltus – Men’s Basketball
Davy is a sophomore guard from Paris, France.  Davy was a key contributor throughout the year, earning All-Central Valley Conference Honors for the second year in a row, while maintaining a high GPA.  Davy is considering multiple scholarship offers from 4-year schools.

 

Tiffanee Anderson Most Inspirational

Pedro Aguirre – Baseball
Pedro is a sophomore shortstop from Delano High School in Delano.  As a returner, he not only solidified the infield, but the dugout as well.  Pedro was a player favorite and one of the clear leaders of the team.  In his last 10 games, Pedro really stepped up, batting .405 over that stretch.

Britnei Murray – Softball
Britnei comes to PC from Patterson High School in Patterson, CA.  She was beginning to emerge as one of the team’s best power hitters when an injury cut her season short.  Even though she couldn’t play, she always found a way to contribute, encouraging her teammates and helping her coaches.                           

Tyler Curry Sportsmanship Award

Jose Prieto – Baseball
Jose is a freshman utility player from Monache High School.  He proved himself to be extremely versatile throughout the year, playing multiple positions.  He is the ultimate team player, and will always do whatever the team needs to win.   In 17 games this year, Jose posted a .317 batting average.

Marisol Cerda – Women’s Basketball
Marisol is a freshman from Granite Hills HS in Porterville.  She was one of the best three-point shooters on the team, and was named co-captain during the season.  Marisol is an extremely hard working athlete, and consistently looks for ways to improve as an individual and as part of the team.                     

Pirate of the Year Award

Edgar Reyes – Baseball
Edgar is a sophomore from Western High School in Las Vegas, NV.  Edgar was the ace of the pitching staff, compiling multiple wins and several great performances, capped by a dominating 5-hit complete game shut-out of West Hills Coalinga on April 7.  Edgar has multiple offers to consider for playing next year.

Callie Albison – Women’s Volleyball
Callie is a freshman from Harmony Magnet Academy in Porterville.  She never gives anything less than her very best in anything she sets her mind to.  She an excellent student and was one of the top players on last year’s volleyball team, despite suffering a concussion during conference season.
