Nationwide statistics show that on an average 22 veterans commit suicide every day. Just a few weeks ago, a student veteran at Bakersfield College committed suicide, and all veterans grieve when a fellow veteran decides that he or she is unable to cope any longer.
As part of an effort to stem the tide of veteran suicide, the Porterville College Student Veterans Organization (SVO) has adopted the "Buddy Check 22" nationwide effort. Here's how it works: On the 22nd of every month, check up on a veteran and ask, "How are you doing?" Nothing more than that. You can call the veteran, email, or even post a comment on Facebook. "Buddy Check 22" is a simple effort that can have a profound effect on the life of a veteran.
Porterville College Softball is proud to join the fight to help our veterans in any way possible.
