Freshman Malik McCowan scored a season-high 34 points to help lead the Porterville College Pirates to an 85-68 win over the visiting College of the Sequoias Giants on Wednesday night.
Porterville has now won three of its last four games to improve to 10-14 overall. At 7-4, PC currently sits two games behind Central Valley Conference-leading Fresno City College (9-2) with three games to play.
The Pirates trailed Sequoias (11-14, 5-6 CVC) 40-36 at halftime before outscoring the Giants 49-28 in the second half.
McCowan's impressive night included 10 of 18 shooting from the field while making 13 of 15 free throws. He also added five assists and four steals. Off the bench, Miguel Mejia posted 14 points and Darion Wilson added 12 points.
Porterville plays next at Columbia College on Saturday (Feb. 11) in a 6 p.m. conference game.
