Softball: Pirates earn Easton/NFCA National All-Academic Team Award

Thanks to a 3.264 grade point average, the Porterville College softball team has been named a 2015-16 Easton/National Fastpitch Coaches Association Junior College All-Academic Team. Also, five members from that Pirates squad earned Easton/NFCA JC Scholar-Athlete honors.

Porterville ranked 22nd overall in the nation and was just one of two California community college programs to be honored with the team award.

"Coach Dugan and her staff do a great job of preparing student-athletes for success on and off the field," said Porterville College Director of Athletics and Student Programs Joe Cascio. "Coach Dugan is one of the best in the business, especially when it comes to stressing the importance of academics.  Her teams are always among the state leaders in GPA. I am very proud of these student-athletes and their accomplishments."

Being named to the National Scholar-Athlete Team were Briana Bamber, Destiny Garcia, Jayme Knauer, Alexa Rivera, and Gabriella Tabian. To earn Scholar-Athlete honors, an individual must have compiled a GPA of 3.5 or better.

Bamber and Garcia were sophomores on last season's squad and have already transferred on to continue their careers at four-year programs. Bamber is at Urbana University in Ohio while Garcia is at Transylvania University in Kentucky.
