PC’s Rubi Guzman, Andrea Perez sign with four-year universities
PORTERVILLE – A pair of Pirate female student-athletes are headed to the next level.
Porterville College standouts Rubi Guzman (Corcoran HS) and Andrea Perez (Porterville HS) have both signed letters of intent to continue their academic and athletic career at four-year universities. Guzman is headed out of state to Midland University in Nebraska while Perez will stay in California to attend and compete at Simpson University in Redding.
Guzman was a two-sport athlete for the Pirates as she was a two-year member of the women's volleyball team and competed one season with the softball program.
In two seasons of volleyball, Guzman played in 43 matches, recording 430 digs and 43 aces. She earned All-Central Valley Conference Honorable Mention accolades this past season. In one season of softball, she batted .262, had 19 RBI, scored 17 runs, and stole 4 bases. She was also recognized for her academic achievement, earning Dean's List honors this year.
Midland University is located in Fremont, Neb. and competes at the NAIA level as a member of the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC).
Perez had an impressive sophomore season on the basketball court for the Pirates this past winter. She was named All-Central Valley Conference Honorable Mention after averaging 14 points, 6.1 rebounds and 4 assists per game. Perez also excelled academically, receiving President's Honor for having a grade point average of 3.5 or above.
Simpson University competes at the NAIA level and is a member of the California Pacific Conference (CALPAC).
