Pirates Roll to 66-59 Win at Home Over Gavilan
PORTERVILLE – Jermarcus Brown recorded a double-double with 17 points and a season-high 17 rebounds while Jhabie Casabay scored a team-best 18 points to help lead Porterville College to a 66-59 non-conference win at home on Saturday.
The Pirates are starting to turn things around from a difficult start to the season. They have won two of their last three games and improved to 2-10 overall.
Porterville built a 29-23 halftime lead and maintained its advantage in the second half, edging Gavilan 37-36 over the final 20 minutes to finish with the seven-point victory.
Casabay was explosive, scoring all 18 of his points in just 17 minutes while connecting on all six of his three-point attempts.
Brown dominated the glass, collecting 13 of his 17 boards on the defensive end. He shot 5-for-8 from the field and also went 7-for-8 from the free throw line.
Corbin Cichy added 12 points and six rebounds while Julian Bernardino came off the bench to score 10 points, including a pair three-pointers.
Marcus Watts Jr. finished with nine points, three assists, and three steals, and David Johnson contributed seven rebounds, five assists, and two steals.
Porterville will look to keep the momentum going next weekend when the Pirates compete at the College of the Sequoias Classic. PC is scheduled to take on Butte College on Friday (Dec. 19) at 5 p.m. and Pasadena City College on Saturday at noon to close out the calendar year.
