Reedley
The Porterville College softball team swept a home doubleheader against Reedley College on Tuesday, winning the opener 11-3 and earning a thirlling 12-11 walkoff victory over the Tigers in Game 2.
Game 1: Porterville 11, Reedley 3
The Pirates trailed 1-0 after the first inning but erupted for six runs in the third and five more in the fifth to pull away. Six different players drove in runs during the third-inning outburst, with Priscilla Mata-Suarez, Cerinity Perez, Klarissa Manrriquez, Elizabeth Romero, Morgynn Wylie and Maddiysn Montecinos all contributing RBIs. Porterville added five more in the fifth to seal it.
Crisslyn Rodriguez went 3-for-4 with an RBI to lead the offense. Mata-Suarez added two hits and two RBIs, and Manrriquez went 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Perez also contributed two hits and two RBIs.
Alexandrea Andrighetto went the distance, allowing three earned runs on six hits over five innings, striking out three.
Game 2: Porterville 12, Reedley 11
The finale was a back-and-forth affair that ended with a high-scoring seventh inning. Porterville jumped out to a 6-2 lead after the first inning, but Reedley rallied to take a 7-6 lead after four and then an 11-7 advantage after scoring four runs in the top of the seventh. The Pirates scored five times in the bottom of the seventh to walk off with the win.
Manrriquez delivered a big blow in the seventh, singling in two runs to pull Porterville within one, before she eventually scored the tying run a wild pitch. Maddiysn Montecinos came through with the walk-off hit, a single that brought home Romero for the game-winner.
Manrriquez finished 2-for-4 with three RBIs for the game. Elli John went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and also pitched four innings of relief, allowing four earned runs.
Andrighetto started in the circle but was tagged for seven earned runs in three innings. John came on in relief and took the decision.
The Pirates improved to 7-27 overall and 4-11 in the Central Valley Conference with the two wins. PC is back in action on Thursday (Apr. 16) at Merced College.
