Pirates open season at Modesto Invitational

MODESTO – New Porterville College cross country head coach Bret Davis' Pirates were in action for the first time this past weekend at the Modesto Junior College Pirate Invitational at Tuolumne River Regional Park on Friday.

PC had a limited squad in action with three men's racers and one female competitor in action at the event.

Danika De La Cruz, the Pirates' lone women's runner, had a solid season debut by finishing 44^th on the 5K course with a time of 22:46.7

For the men, Alexis Ibarra Estrella led the Pirates trio with his 98^th place finish. He cleared the four-mile course his time of 26:18.4. He was followed by Ignacio Cuevas Alcantar in 104^th place (28:56.4) and Messiah Jimenez in 107^th (32:25.8).

Porterville will return to action on Oct. 3 when the Pirates will compete at the Bakersfield College Invitational at Kern County Soccer Park.
